Subtle reads any subscription receipt or screenshot — and turns it into a record. No bank linking. No forms. Just photograph what charges you.
The average American is enrolled in more than eight active subscriptions. Most can recall maybe four. The rest — old free trials that expired into recurring charges, gym memberships from a different apartment, that one AI tool we tried in March — keep drawing money quietly, every month, forever.
Existing apps either ask you to fill out an eight-field form for every subscription, or demand your bank credentials so they can see everything. Neither is good. The first is tedious. The second is a different kind of cost.
"I genuinely thought I was paying maybe $80 a month. I checked. It was $284."
Subtle is built around one move: photograph the bill. Whether it's a receipt email, a billing page, or a bank notification — capture it, and Subtle reads it.
Pick a receipt, watch Subtle read it, review the fields, then add it to the home view. The flow is simulated, but the shape is the product.
A subscription tracker that itself feels predatory misses the whole point. Here's what we promise not to do — and what we built instead.
No Plaid. No "link your account." Subtle reads what you photograph — that's all the access it needs. Your transaction history stays yours.
Images are processed in-flight and discarded. We can't show them to you again because we don't have them. By design.
Cancel any time, in two taps, inside the app. No phone trees, no win-back forms, no "are you sure" loops. The exit is right where it should be.
The whole job of a subscription tracker is to reduce noise in your financial life. An app that runs ads on top is a contradiction. Subtle is funded by people who use it.
Every field comes with a confidence score. When the model isn't sure, we tell you — and ask. We publish accuracy numbers and update them. No magic. Just an honest tool that reads receipts.
Most AI products refuse to tell you how often they're wrong. We publish accuracy by field, updated monthly. These numbers are from our internal benchmark of 500 real-world subscription images.
Subtle is funded by people who use it — not by ads, not by selling data, not by making it hard to leave. There are three ways to pay.
Subtle is built deeply into iOS. Share Extensions, Widgets, Siri shortcuts, Visual Intelligence integrations — these are why the experience is fast. Building the same on Android would mean two half-built apps. We'd rather make one excellent thing.
If demand is overwhelming, we'll reconsider. For now: iOS only.
Your subscriptions are stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud account. We can't see them. We don't have a server with your data — there's nothing to leak.
The AI scan briefly sends an image to a model for processing. The image is discarded immediately, both on our side and the model's. We never store, sell, or analyze your photos.
Read the full privacy policy.
Two reasons. First, AI scans cost money to run — not a lot, but not nothing. Second, products that are free have to make money some other way: ads, data, lock-in. We don't want to be that. So we charge a small amount, transparently, and that's it.
If you don't want to pay, the free tier covers 5 subscriptions and 3 AI scans a month. That works for many people.
Rocket Money requires you to link your bank account so it can scan transactions. That's powerful, but it means giving a third party full visibility into everything you spend. Subtle doesn't do that — you photograph what you want it to know about.
Bobby is a beautiful manual tracker. You type everything in. We love Bobby. But we wanted something that didn't require typing — just snap a photo.
If Bobby works for you, keep using it. If you've ever felt uncomfortable handing over bank credentials, try Subtle.
A small team that got tired of typing into 8-field forms to log a Netflix subscription. We're independent, self-funded, and based across multiple time zones.
If Subtle does well, we'll hire carefully. If it doesn't, we'll keep maintaining it for the people who paid us once. That's the deal.
We're aiming for Spring 2026 on iOS. Beta access goes out to waitlist members first, in waves. Lifetime slots go to the earliest signups, in order.
If we slip, we'll tell you why. We won't ship before it's ready.
Join the waitlist. We'll email you once when Subtle ships, and once if anything important changes. Never any other time.
